Self-Determination

Self-Determination Leads to Independent Lifestyles

Self-Determination provides persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their guardians and/or families, the opportunity to choose or create supports that will meet the preferred lifestyle of the individual.

Participants have greater control over how funds are used, assume responsibility of directing their services, and actively contribute in their community.

TARC’s Self Determination Program serves Shawnee County and surrounding counties, helping individuals shape their own lives.

Testimonials
"Being part of the TARC Self-Determination program has opened doors and let us feel we are part of the decision-making process for our daughter. We are thankful to have these support services available. With their assistance, we are helping her gain independence as an adult. "

Testimonials
“I love the Self-Determination program and how it allows me to live a happy, safe and interesting life. I like being the BOSS of how my funds that are available to support me are budgeted and then put to good use. The people at TARC that manage the self-determination program work as if they are helping make their own family member's life better and less stressful and they are very appreciated. Programs like this should be an option for all and available more widespread and in every state.”
