Our Feeding Clinic program was established in 2013 in response to community concerns about the lack of resources and support for children with feeding difficulties. To address this need, TARC created a specialized feeding clinic with an interdisciplinary team to provide individualized evaluations and ongoing therapy. Since then, the clinic has continued to offer these essential services, helping those with feeding and swallowing challenges thrive.
Our unique clinic focuses on the traditionally medically under-served population of children who struggle with safe swallowing, eating, and drinking. Adults with intellectual and developmental delay can also access clinic for evaluation to determine safest diet and coaching for feeding support. We are dedicated to coaching and collaborating with parents, caregivers, and community partners such as medical providers, teachers, and educators. These community partners are encouraged to join clinic sessions for direct coaching and instruction to ensure the highest levels of inclusion for children we serve in all settings. We also provide evaluations and the safest diet recommendations for adults with intellectual delay and dysphagia. Our clinic providers have over 55 years of experience serving individuals with medical complexity and finding a path to eating progress.
We are a proud provider for Northeast Kansas with expertise targeting individuals with developmental, intellectual, and related disabilities.
For families in Shawnee County, children under 3 years of age receive services through the Infant-Toddler Services of Kansas program, while those over 3 years of age are served through the Feeding Clinic. Adults with intellectual and developmental delay can also access clinic for evaluation to determine safest diet and coaching for feeding support. Families in surrounding counties can access Feeding Clinic services from birth through adolescence.
The Feeding Clinic supports children experiencing difficulties with chewing, swallowing, food acceptance, and transitioning between food textures.
The clinic offers individualized assessments, therapeutic interventions, and caregiver education in a family-centered environment.
The multidisciplinary team includes speech therapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and other specialists trained in pediatric feeding and swallowing challenges.
Sessions typically occur in a clinic setting designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for children and their caregivers.
Families interested in the program can contact the clinic to discuss their child’s needs and schedule an evaluation. Contact the Clinic Coordinator to get started. Look for the blue box under “Who to Contact” in this page for contact information.
